Research and inspiration for illustrations

For my poster design I’m thinking of having inspired by WW2 posters such as these.UNITED_WE_ARE_STRONG,_UNITED_WE_WILL_WIN_-_NARA_-_515925

These posters all depict themes of different nations and countries uniting as one to work together.

The poster and comic panel ideas will also be loosely based on the photo of the flag raising on Iwo Jima.WW2_Iwo_Jima_flag_raising

The finished piece will supposedly depict not only teamwork of an army but also teamwork with the aid of different nations since the characters in the pic will all be soldiers from different armed forces rather than a specific one.

For the surreal design of my cover I’m taking inspiration from covers similar to the cover art of these games combined with flat earth depictions

To incorporate the theme of international citizen to my works, they will all depict this from the display of my characters who all come from different countries, all working together.

Taking the time period of my fictional story into account, it is based in an alternate history with technology and war comparable to WW2. So my characters all come from countries that were part of the main axis and allied forces at the time- Germany, Russia, America and Japan. These places around the world is generally global, making it relevant to the theme of international citizen. The main difference is that the history and politics is all different in my fictional story, allowing me more creative freedom with my graphic novel and to not worry about historical accuracy. This is not intended to be viewed by history experts.

While on the subject of audience, I am aiming for the target audience to be fairly open and global with the exception of minors. The fact that it’s all illustrated for a graphic novel means that it’s also intended for fans of graphic novels to see. It would also appeal to sic fi fans since my graphic novel and parts of my illustrations will take inspiration from H.G Wells’ War of The Worlds as well as alien invasion themes.

You don’t have to be a history or military expert to enjoy the work even though it takes inspiration from WW2 but fans of war stories and even gamers could also enjoy it since it takes inspiration from war movies and games such as Full Metal Jacket, Fury, Ace Combat, War Thunder and Valkyria Chronicles.

The story also takes inspiration from Attack On titan and parts of other anime and manga, so anime fans as well as general fans of animation can also enjoy it for the story, characters and illustrative drawing style.

Overall it also has a global appeal for the fact that it has themes and depictions of world unity to fight a common enemy.
